Railroad photography was my introduction to the world of photography. I have been taking pictures of trains and railroading since the late 1980s, at first using Kodachrome 64 slide film and a Canon AE-1 camera.
In the world of railroading, my first love was the coal-hauling railroads of West Virginia and the Alleghany Mountains. Over time my interests expanded, first to landscape photography -- after all, most railroad photographs are landscapes with a train running through it -- and then into more diverse subjects. But trains have remained a constant in my photographic life.
